Sole Focus: Learning To Love Summer Sandals

Sometimes I really believe I’m 5’7, but that’s just because of my affinity for heels. And because a girl can dream. This summer though I’m trying to put my feet firmly on the ground and embrace the season of sandals. Let’s be honest, they’re definitely more practical for the beach and they help bring a little sensation back into my toes. But if I’m sacrificing height, I’m definitely not sacrificing style. Here are my top 10 picks for a summer of sandal lovin’.

1. J.Crew Isla Metallic Slides

So simple, but so elegant looking on. You could probably get through the whole summer with just this pair of sandals in your closet.

2. Steve Madden Crete Natural Snake Gladiator Sandal

Though they be but flat, these are fierce! Too much snakeskin anything is a little much for me, but these sandals feel more classic than edgy. And the print is surprisingly versatile thanks to the neutral tones.

3. Steve Madden ‘Werkit’ Gladiator Sandal

The gladiator trend has been around for a while and I feel like it’s always polarizing, and an especially difficult look if you’re short. That’s why I’m grateful for these. After trying around every pair under the California sun, this pair proved with a little bit of a lower lace up and a soft suede, short girls can be gladiators, too.

4. H&M Leather Sandal

Love pairing these with some denim shorts and a plain t shirt. They instantly give a summer outfit a little polish.

5. H&M White Sandal

For that summer white party in your near future. Nothing like these white straps against a great tan.

6. Tkees Sandal

The “hip flop” –  snakeprint and neon for the days the rubber standard won’t do.

7. Jack Rogers Thong Sandal

It wasn’t until recently that I realized why this shoe is so iconic – Jackie Kennedy started the trend! This is my “roman holiday” fancy beach sandal. Comfortable, stylish, and timeless, in true Jackie O fashion.

8. Valentino ‘Rockstud’ Thong Sandal

This is not your everyday flip flop, but if you’re going to have one great day-to-night flat sandal for this season, voilà. They go with everything and they’re built to last. I’ve also yet to find a shoe Valentino has put studs on that I don’t swoon over.

9. J.Crew Birkenstock Sandal

This is one of those trends I rolled my eyes at when it first made a comeback – I’m not exactly a “normcore” kind of girl. But there’s a reason Birkenstocks are back and you, too, can be a believer if you just put on a pair. After a few wears they basically start to conform to your feet and you don’t want to take them off. And the JCREW line has released a whole bunch of great new colorways, including these matte white gems that are now staples in my rotation.
