Ah, the poncho. Few clothing items find themselves as timeless or as polarizing. Is it a cape? Is it a sweater? Can you wear one without looking like a tent? The answer to all these questions is a resounding ‘yes.’ In fact, it feels like the definition of poncho has become so broad it ranges from rain gear to crop tops. But after seeing a deluge of stylish women in Burberry’s monogrammed wraps last fall, I knew the poncho was fully back in fashion.
Don’t worry – the perfect poncho look doesn’t require a hefty cashmere investment or an evening out. The one I couldn’t wait to wear in Kiawah was actually only $16 from a small boutique in Santa Monica and was made for a breezy summer night. I love the mix of bright and desert-inspired colors with the playful fringe. The light fabric and comfy cut made this the perfect top for swinging under the trees in the backyard. This is the ultimate lazy Sunday look for a Carolina summer day.
That’s the best thing about a poncho – it’s the ultimate transitional piece. Day to night. Summer to Fall. City to coast. There’s a poncho for everyone. Here are some of my favorites if you want to achieve my loungewear look:
