Go Nude: The Other Summer Hue

Whether it’s white, stripes, or florals, summer fashion can sometimes read “the brighter the better.” But my other favorite seasonal color is nude. Strong arguments could be made for sporting this shade any time of year, but summer is all about wearing less and baring more. Thankfully bringing nude colors into my outfits let’s me do so while still looking sophisticated. Here are a few of my favorite items to help bring nude into your wardrobe.

Start with Pumps

I think white or black pumps can be a little severe in the summertime, but I love the way a good pair of nude pumps looks with the colorful whimsy of a summer outfit. This Dior pair is so versatile because the heel is a manageable height and the matte leather easily allows this show to go from day to night. Paired with white jeans these are a complete 10. Jimmy Choo and Steve Madden make great, similarly styled pairs for a variety of price points.

These peep top Louboutins are the next step in the nude shoe game. The super high heel and patent leather can make a paisley summer dress anything but basic – not to mention perfect for a summer wedding.

Finishing Touches

Nude lipstick may sound a little daunting but with the right tricks it can make your lips look fantastic. As a rule of thumb, my makeup artists have taught me the darker the complexion the more nude you can go. For me, the trick is to use a slightly darker liner and a little dot of foundation to define my lips. From here I can go as simple as a little rosebud salve, or for a matte or shine nude finish. With matte, make sure to moisturize or your lips can end up looking dry.

Then just grin – and bare it.
