Exploring the Brentwood Country Mart Part I: Prose Before Clothes
This week I’m highlighting one of my favorite places in LA – the Brentwood Country Mart. If you’re a local, you probably know I’m not alone in this. This spot has a ton of great history – they even have pics of Elizabeth Taylor shopping here back in the day.
While the stores continue to update (you’ll find Intermix, Free People and Calypso, to name a few) my favorite first stop here is the bookstore. Sure, I have my kindle for travel and I know it sounds cliché, but nothing is quite as inviting or romantic as scouring book shelves for that perfect title, binding, or author that grabs your attention and invites you inside.
I try to read at least a handful of books over the summer and I was just in the market for a new one when I happened upon Harper Lee’s new book, Go Set A Watchman. I loved To Kill A Mockingbird and her new effort has been getting a lot of coverage so I’m interested to see where this title takes me.
Which will eventually be back here again, desperate for new stories and new adventures. After all, as Henry Ward Beecher put it, “Where is human nature so weak as in the bookstore?”
