A Horse of a Different Color: Kentucky Derby, Fashion Edition
We’re only a few weeks away from one of my favorite weekends of the year – the Kentucky Derby. From the fashion to the flurry of jockeys racing around the track, this event always feels like it’s in Technicolor. So it only makes sense that Johnny and I really have to step up our fashion game this year to stand out.
That’s why I’m beyond excited to tell you that Kate Pankoke, Project Runway All-Star, is collaborating with me to design two one-of-a-kind looks for the weekend!
I’m giving you guys a sneak peek of our initial meeting and brainstorm. Kate is so talented so it was great watching her sketch as we spoke and bringing our visions to life. I loved picking out the color swatches as part of the inspiration process too! This really brought back some fun memories for me of my skating days and costume designs and fittings. Thankfully Kate will be using a little more fabric and a lot less sequins. Such a great, creative person! We’re working long distance as the looks come together, which can be tricky, but I know I’m in good hands and can’t wait to try on the final product.
Check back to see the final looks and for some behind the scenes snaps from Johnny and I after the Derby. See you soon, Kentucky!
