Smell is one of the most powerful senses when it comes to triggering emotion. It’s why I think the joy of a home cooked meal starts with the sizzle of garlic or you never forget your first boyfriend’s cologne. It’s also why filling my home with warm and memorable scents is part of how I make it feel like a home. And there’s no better time for that than fall.
Fall is the season for scent. It’s about spices and smoke, smells that evoke the color of changing leaves and wood-burning ovens. Even though I’m sometimes in climates where fall is more of an idea than a season, filling my home with candles that bring New England to the beach is how I welcome in September.
